So tired...
Back from VA, for what it's worth. Maybe tomorrow I'll feel up to accomplishing something before I leave for work.
No, I have no idea what's up with this template right now, and I don't have it in me to figure it out tonight. I'm putting the finishing touches on the new one soon anyway.

I am finally seeing / I was the one worth leaving
Going back to DC always makes me anxious.
I'll be out of town from tomorrow until Sunday afternoon, but goodness knows everything I do is web-based enough it probably won't affect my online activities much. I'll probably even fiddle with the aforementioned template while I'm there. On the subject of: Stupid Internet Explorer. Firefox had no problem at all with the transparent-background PNG that was causing the problems in my last post (and which Phil has been 1337 enough to help me fix), but stupid IE couldn't register the transparency, so I'm going to have to reupload it as a sucky old GIF. That's inexcusably lame.

Geek stuff!
Who wants an invite to the Outfoxed beta test? I need more "trusted friends" on there. :)
While I'm at it, I was hoping to finish up my template and get my blog moved to my main page before school starts back, but I'm having some problems. Here is my problem. Can someone with more web design skillz than myself pick through my HTML and my CSS and tell me a way to get that sidebar back where it belongs, beneath the graphic? (Don't worry, I'll move the text in it down so the picture won't cover it or vice versa. And I might tweak the colors to match her better.) It doesn't even have to be a particularly easy way. I just want it to look more or less like this template does now, but with the picture in the corner overlapping stuff. I think it looks cool overlapping the column divisions, and I can't imagine in this day and age that that's too ambitious.

Zoo!
Since we both had a day off together for once, Graham and I decided to go to the Columbus Zoo (and Aquarium). Being a weekend, it was pretty busy, and I wish the manatee house had been less crowded, 'cause I could just sit and watch them shove lettuce into their mouths all day. But overall it was a lot of fun: We got there early enough to see the Mexican wolf puppies romping, we got to see the Southeast Asian river otters being extremely silly, we got to pet goats, we got to see bonobos do what bonobos are most famous for, and we got to see the baby Komodo dragons! I'm putting some pictures up in photoblog. Enjoy!

"The planet Cybertron is a wound that will not heal. No sooner does it close up and its pain recede, flooding the scarred sphere with hope, then it is ripped open anew, bleeding, covering itself with caking pools of black despair. And there is that much less hope left for the next time. And its pain resumes, even worse then before..."
(Yes, for those keeping score, I've fallen behind a little on the nightly reading.)

BAM!
So this morning, around 1AM, one of the dumpsters behind our apartment building exploded.
The blinds were closed but the windows were open last night, and I happened to be looking in that direction when I noticed a bright flash and a pop, and then a sound like sizzling or maybe fragments of stuff falling to the ground. I went to the window and looked out, hoping that whatever it was, it was not my car, and sure enough the dumpster at the far end of the parking lot was on fire. It wasn't just like the trash in it was burning, it was more like the dumpster contained fire and little else, bright orange and pink flames that shot out several feet toward the sky. I ran into the bedroom and called 911, but before I could even get rerouted to the fire department I noticed a helicopter outside that had spotted it. The guy at the fire station took my information and said they already had someone on the way but it wouldn't hurt for me to go outside and direct them if they looked lost. By the time I got my sandals on and got downstairs a fire engine had already arrived, presumably called in by the police helicopter, and they were starting to hose it down. It's certainly a relief to know that the fire department here has such a quick response time. I don't know what caused it to explode and combust quite like that, whether a smouldering cigarette hit something explosive, or fumes from some cleaning chemicals compressed near the bottom had reacted, or whether the remains of what looked like a window AC unit I noticed in there when I was being nosy today had anything to do with it. But man, it went up good.

Oh, cruel fate!
Why must The Tick be on opposite the Daily Show? Why, God, why!?

In Other News...
Swiped from my friend Sean's LiveJournal: Disney has given Slave Labor Graphics of all people the license to to comics based on Haunted Mansion (the ride, not the movie), Wonderland, Tron, and Gargoyles. I mean, the stuff sounds promising - the first three are by current SLG creative types who happen to have an affection for the story, and the last is actually by original Gargoyles series creator Greg Weisman. It's just weird to see squeaky-clean Disney working with the publisher of Johnny the Homicidal Maniac. Also, it amuses me that the creator of Little Gloomy is a big Tron fan and already had some Tron stories he wanted to write. I'll definitely pick up Gargoyles, and I'll probably pick up Wonderland, too.

RAGE
Mostly I haven't posted any big commentaries on the new BotCon information because I'm busy getting my rage on over at the Allspark and Dusty's boards. For the moment I will just say that we already knew it was no longer "by the fans", and now it's been confirmed that it is also no longer "for the fans".

Whee!
Thanks to Graham I now have a beautiful pink pegasus pony who smells like coconuts. You want the next one I find, Windy? :)
Yes, yes, back to studying...

After finals I will:
- Finish tweaking my template and move the blog to the main page
- Write a bit about how much I miss when anime was mostly space opera
- Go to the zoo
- Go back over Transformers: Legends and do that review I've just been reminded I said I was gonna do ;)
- On that same note, write some e-mail I've been meaning to write
- Play Neverwinter Nights and Sid Mead's Pirates so I can squeal with glee over my new video card
- Play Skies of Arcadia Legends because I just bought it from work and it looks awesome
- Play Final Fantasy 1 some more because I just haven't had time with all the studying and the Graham going to bed early in the room with the NES
- Relax and get mentally reset for next quarter

Disturbing!
My favorite deviant fan-artist Warabi is at it again with the cast (so far) of Galaxy Force. Yes, as pretty anime girls. As it turns out, for some it's appropriate. ;)
More - much more - after finals!

Huzzah!
Got my hardware and it's all working beautifully. The video card was a little bitchy, but I got it working without too much trouble.
I put in the RAM first and gave it a restart so I wasn't piling too much new stuff in at once, and BIOS was all, "System memory has changed". And I was like, "Fuckin' yeah, it changed!" :D

Woo!
Looks like the new computer parts (a gig of RAM and a new video card, for those keeping score) should be arriving tomorrow, and I have the whole day off to play with them. Yay more RAM!
Finals are next week! Wish me luck!
